Wilmington, North Carolina has once again been ranked at the top of the list for cities most addicted… and especially to opioids. In the town I live in and surrounding counties there are approximately 100 beds for those seeking addiction treatment. The majority of those are reserved for men. Of the few available for women, there are zero programs that allow mothers seeking help to stay with their children. Roots of Recovery is an organization with the goal of changing these statistics through sustainable recovery practices, yoga, and community. This organization was built out of tragedy….the kind of tragedy caused by addiction and lack of resources. Wilmington is a Port City drowning in drugs and leaving those seeking recovery out to sea. Roots of Recovery is hosting a fundraising effort: Roots of Love Yoga Festival and I encourage you to check out their site and consider attending or donating to the cause. Wilmington is just one city involved in this nationwide epidemic; will you be part of the change?
